OKLAHOMA CITY -- The 2010 Census may be over, but the government wants more information.

A number of Oklahomans may have received or will receive a letter from the U.S. Census Bureau, asking them to participate in a telephone questionnaire called the American Time Use Survey.

Census officials said residents shouldn't be alarmed if they find a $40 debt card in the packet. The debt card was issued to those who did not provide a phone number to the U.S. Census Bureau.

"For individuals who have been selected to participate in the American Time Use Survey, if we don't have a phone number for them we will send them a debit card that carries a $40 dollar value," said Rachel Krantz-Kent, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. "If they call on a designated day and complete an interview, the interviewer will provide them with a pin number for the card."

The interviewer will ask a number of questions regarding how you spend your time. Interviewers will not ask for personal information such as social security numbers or bank account information.

The results of the telephone survey are sent to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. A Census spokesperson said information about how Oklahomans spend their time is important to researchers.

"Health researchers may be interested in the time people spent exercising and the types of exercise or sports they engage in," Krantz-Kent said.

Interviewers may also ask how you spend your weekdays or weekends, and who you spend it with.

"We over sample households that have children because it is really important that we capture who have young children because that does affect how they spend their time," Krantz-Kent said.

The data is used to help develop programs and policies.

The interviews take about 15 minutes and anyone 15 years or older can participate in the survey.
