Broken Arrow Beautification Group Takes Top Cleanup Award in Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Broken Arrow Beautification Committee's "Beauty Patrol" has taken top honors at the 20th Annual Keep Oklahoma Environmental Excellence Awards.

In addition to receiving an Environmental Excellence Award, the Committee also was named the overall statewide winner with the Best of the Environmental Best Award.

The Environmental Excellence Awards honor environmental improvements and beautification projects by groups, companies and individuals from across the state.

  • First National Bank and Trust of Okmulgee, for a one-day clean-up of US-75 from one end of Okmulgee County to the other;
  • Deidre Ellis, Broken Arrow, for her work in expanding the programs, influence, membership base and funding for Keep Broken Arrow Beautiful;
  • Patrick Ramsey, McAlester, for the "Buffs are WOW (Wiping Out Waste) recycling efforts in McAlester Public Schools;
  • Pride in McAlester, for creating several public education, community improvement and beautification projects;
  • Operation Clean House from Bartlesville, for organizing a free recycling and waste disposal event in Bartlesville and Dewey;
  • First National Bank and Trust of Okmulgee, for collecting more than a thousand trash bags from a cleanup effort along thirty miles of US-75 in Okmulgee County;
  • Team Up to Clean Up from Eufaula, for increasing cleanup efforts at Lake Eufaula;
  • Devon Energy Corporation – Krebs Field Office, for organizing four major beautification projects and completing them within two days as part of the United Way of Southeastern Oklahoma's Day of Caring;
  • McAlester Public Schools, for organizing recycling drives, tree plantings and area cleanups with students and United Way partners.

Keep Oklahoma Beautiful was established in 1965 as a statewide nonprofit organization with a mission to encourage, facilitate and recognize efforts that will improve the aesthetic, environmental and sustainable quality of life in Oklahoma.
