OKLAHOMA CITY -- Police arrested a mother and her boyfriend after a toddler was brought into a hospital Sunday and died.

Oklahoma City Police said 20-month-old Malia Ransom passed away shortly after they arrived at the hospital. They interviewed Malia's mother, Cierra Mona Ransom, 24, and her boyfriend, Omar Jamon Hill, 30, but no arrests were made at that time.

On Monday, the State Medical Examiner's Office ruled Malia's cause of death as a homicide due to extensive internal trauma.

"I know that it was internal injuries to the child that were the cause of death, extensive internal injuries. Blunt force trauma was the ruling by the Medical Examiner's Office," said OKC Police Capt. Patrick Stewart.

As a result of that ruling, police interviewed both Ransom and Hill again. Based on that interview, the couple was arrested on complaints of first-degree murder and allowing or permitting child abuse.

Bond for the couple has been denied and they will face a judge Wednesday morning.

News 9 contacted both Ransom's and Hill's families, who are still reeling over what has happened. Both families refused to comment.
