OKLAHOMA CITY -- Many shoppers will spend this weekend focused on getting the best deals and often times forgetting about personal safety. That's why police want to remind shoppers to stay vigilant, especially out in the parking lot.

Numerous people flocked to Penn Square Mall Saturday for this year's Black Friday sales. But during the holiday season two years ago, Oklahoma City Police said a woman was sexually assaulted at the parking garage outside Penn Square Mall, and in September a woman said she was stabbed in the parking lot as she was leaving. That suspect was never caught.

'I'm extremely frustrated, just frustrated at the entire situation, and I want this guy to be caught," said Darcie Anderson, who was stabbed outside of Penn Square.

It's why businesses like JCPenny heighten their security during the holidays.

"We do take extra precautions and the associates are kind of aware of what we do," said Joseph Waslow, JCPenny Store Manager.

Police said some key reminders when you are shopping this holiday season include always go shopping in groups. Also shoppers should park smart in well lit areas. Another idea is to educate your children and teach them to find a store clerk or security guard if they get separated.

Police also said it is a good idea to carry your keys in your hand because they could be used as a good weapon.
