MUSKOGEE, Oklahoma -- The Muskogee mother, who tried to defend the life of her son during a brutal stabbing earlier this month, has given birth to a healthy baby boy.

Easton Lane was born at a Muskogee hospital just after 11 p.m. Friday. He came in at nearly 6 pounds and 18 inches long.

Easton lost his older brother, 4-year-old Dakota Lane, November 9, 2010 in a home invasion. Dakota was stabbed 36-times with a pair of scissors.

A Muskogee teen, 18-year-old Aaron Laconsello, is being held in the stabbing death of Dakota. He is scheduled to be back in court Monday.

Meanwhile, walkers and runners in Muskogee came together Saturday to help the family.

Some walked, some ran, and some hitched a ride to their four legged friends. In all, 81 people came out Saturday to help a family in need.

"It's just overwhelming for the kids, I mean it's just more than I can...I don't how I'll be able to thank everybody," said Lori Bumgarner, Dakota's Grandmother.

To help the family deal with the devastating loss, Republican Muskogee state Senator Earl Garrison helped organize the benefit run.

"We just wanted to do something to show the good spirit of Oklahoma, there's people here from everywhere," said Garrison.

Participants chipped in what they could and more than $3,000 was raised for the family.

The Bumgarner's are thankful for the strangers who gave up their time and money. They say with their help, dealing with the loss of Dakota will eventually get easier.

"One day at a time... That's all we can do. Happy, sad, cry a lot," Bumgarner said.

The family has other events planned to honor Dakota, including a polar bear plunge into Lake Eufala next month.
