OKLAHOMA CITY -- Brandi Smith-Trowsdale and her husband Allan struggled to have kids, which was why they said their two dogs have become more like children to them. The couple said they were surprised to find someone had put a pot in their backyard filled with dog food and anti-freeze.

"I was pretty much freaking out, just freaking out," Brandi said.

Allan said he walked into the backyard found their gate had been opened and noticed the pot. Instantly, he said he could tell what it was.

"I looked at it and said someone is trying to kill our dogs," Allan said.

The couple has had their dogs Lilly Belle and Daisy for nearly two years. During that time the couple has become extremely close to them.

"These dogs are my children no matter how crazy it sounds,"Brandi said.

While the couple is confident Daisy did not drink the anti-freeze, they don't know if Lilly Belle did. They can't know for sure because Lilly Belle is missing. Brandi said she believes her dog may have gotten out of their backyard because their gate was left open. She said she is concerned about finding her and making sure she wasn't poisoned.

"There's the hope that somebody has found her noticed her collar and took her in," Brandi said.

This was the first time the couple has had issues at their home. Several months ago the couple said someone broke into their car and stolen the radio inside. That they can deal with, but someone trying to kill their dogs has been difficult to understand.

"I just feel completely invaded. They can go out and steal from a car, that's no big deal, but when they come into your backyard, that's the part that's scary. It's a nightmare, there is no other way to describe it," Brandi said.

The couple has filed a police report and are hoping detectives are able to get fingerprints off the pot that contained the anti-freeze and dog food. They said they hope that can lead to police to whoever tried killing their dogs.

Lilly Belle is a mix of breeds but looks like a black lab and should have her collar.

Anyone with information about the crime or has seen Lilly Belle should call police.
