OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma City police officers have arrested the first person ever placed on Oklahoma Child Support's Most Wanted list.

Police found 59-year-old John Dale Rutledge Nov. 24 after a state investigative agent received a tip. He was wanted on a bench warrant for failing to appear at a 1999 child support hearing. Rutledge spent the holiday behind bars and had Thanksgiving dinner in jail.

"It appears that Oklahoma County provided this man more on Thanksgiving than he provided his own family," Oklahoma Child Support Services spokesperson Jeff Wagner said.

Investigators said Rutledge owes more than $63,000 in child support. He will be transported from the Oklahoma County Detention Center to the Pittsburg County Jail in McAlester.

OCSS created the Child Support's Most Wanted list in 2003. It solicits public help in finding people who refuse to financially support their children.

"When parents fail a legal obligation to support their children," Wagner said, "there can be serious social consequences for the child and, as in this case, serious legal consequences for the parent."
