LUTHER, Oklahoma – A man who shot himself in the head has been arrested for then driving under the influence of alcohol and for driving with an open container of alcohol in the vehicle as well.

According to the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Department, deputies were called to the scene of a man who had reportedly shot himself in the head Thursday night in the 13000 block of N. Dobbs. The callers said the man, 25-year-old Cash Mayer, was still breathing.

Deputies said while they were on their way to the home, Mayer left the scene, driving a car with an eyewitness as his passenger.

Sheriff's deputies eventually caught up with Mayer on the road. They noticed a gunshot wound on the right side of his head. The wound was determined to be a graze. Deputies concluded Mayer was driving under the influence of alcohol as well as driving with an open container of alcohol in the vehicle.

Mayer was taken to a local hospital, treated for his wound and was then booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on complaints of driving under the influence of alcohol and transporting an open container of alcohol.

Mayer is being help on a $2,500 bail.

Sheriff's deputies said they are still trying to determine if the shooting was intentional or accidental.
