A Brief Warm Up

Our fast and weak upper level system has moved southeast of the region this morning and this signals improving weather through tomorrow.  We expect sunshine today with highs around 50 and even warmer daytime highs Thursday before the next major front rolls through the area this weekend.  A weak boundary will enter the state Friday and should knock temps down in the mid 50s for highs with mostly cloudy conditions.  As the main upper level trough advances closer to the area Saturday, increasing south wind will lead to some shower activity Friday night into Saturday across eastern OK.  This does not appear to be a significant precipitation event. 

The timing of the weekend system appears to be centered on Saturday midday with falling temperatures and blustery conditions Saturday evening into Sunday.  The real deal cold air may lag several hours after the boundary passes, but the main story of colder air arriving will be the weekend headline, especially Sunday into early next week. Afternoon temps Sunday may stay in the upper 20s or lower 30s for many spots.  The upper air flow will become less amplified and more zonal or even southwesterly by late next week.  This will bring warmer air back to the region for a few days, but from the weekend through Tuesday we expect the cold air to dominate. 

The snow threat for the weekend system is not zero, but the model data is converging on a singular solution of taking the main upper level trough east of the area by Saturday.   At this juncture in the forecast cycle, we're not concerned with any snow potential with this system across most of the state.
