TULSA, Oklahoma -- Tulsa firefighters found a meth lab while battling a house fire and freezing conditions early Sunday morning in west Tulsa. However, the meth lab did not appear to be the cause of the fire, officials say.

The home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at about 5:45 a.m. in the 2400 block of West 43rd Street.

Firefighters experienced heavy fire, heat and smoke pouring from the residence and had to back out of the initial approach, according  Fire Captain Lee Horst. They brought in a ladder truck to knock down some of the flames before again attempting to enter the house.

Neighbor Gary Bates said another man who lived in the area woke him up to tell him about the fire. "It was pretty scary," he said. "Our back bedroom got pretty warm in there for a few minutes."

Water froze on the firefighters' gear as they kept the fire from spreading to other residences. The home was a complete loss.

The small methamphetamine lab was found in the garage. They notified Tulsa police of the meth lab.

No one was at home at the time of the blaze. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
