CLAREMORE, Oklahoma -- Two Broken Arrow men are in the Rogers County jail after a sheriff's deputy encountered the pair and uncovered what he alleged was evidence that the two were breaking into cars and fired a gunshot at a would-be Good Samaritan.

The deputy was checking near Inola on a report of a suspicious vehicle.

A witness called the Rogers County Sheriff's Office and said that an older Chevrolet truck with two "tall and skinny" men was acting suspiciously.

A deputy spotted the pickup truck and made contact with the two men in the truck.

The deputy said after questioning the pair, 18-year-old Jacob Richards and 20-year-old Steffen Long, it was determined the two were allegedly breaking into vehicles in the Inola area.

While questioning Richards and Long, the deputy was approached by a man who told him that he had encountered the pair earlier, thinking they had had vehicle.  The man said someone in the pickup truck fired a shotgun at him.

The deputy found gunshot damage to the Good Samaritan's vehicle.

The Good Samaritan also told the deputy he was missing a chainsaw from the bed of his truck and when shown a chainsaw that was reportedly recovered from the suspects' pickup truck, the man was able to identify the chainsaw as his.

Both Richards and Long were booked into jail on complaints of shooting with intent to kill, possession of a sawed off shotgun and second degree burglary. .
