TULSA, Oklahoma -- An attempt to stop an SUV over a non-working headlight turned into a short police chase and the arrest of a 39-year-old Kansas man for driving under the influence, driving without a license and possession of burglary tools.

The chase began on Peoria near downtown Tulsa and proceeded north on Peoria early Thursday. It ended in an empty lot at King and Norfolk when the driver, Michael McKee, bailed and ran away on foot.

The foot chase ended about two blocks away.

A Tulsa Police officer chasing McKee injured his hand as he climbed over a 6-foot high chain link fence topped with barbed wire. The police officer was taken to a Tulsa hospital to treat his injuries.

A search of the SUV turned up what police believe was burglary tools.

Michael McKee was taken to the Tulsa County jail. He was booked on complaints of operating a vehicle with defective equipment, eluding, no driver's license, reckless driving, resisting arrest, and driving under the influence - first offense.

A records search at the Oklahoma Department of Corrections website shows that McKee has previous convictions for second degree burglary, knowingly concealing stolen property and receiving stolen property in 2004 and 2002.
