Driver Crashes Into Brick Sign, Abandons Car In West Tulsa

An abandoned car was found crashed into a brick sign outside the Tulsa Municipal Employees Federal Credit Union at West 17th Street and Southwest Boulevard.

TULSA, Oklahoma -- An abandoned car was found crashed into a brick sign outside the Tulsa Municipal Employees Federal Credit Union Saturday morning. Tulsa police responded to a call about the wrecked vehicle shortly before 7 a.m. in the 1100 block of West 17th Street.

Someone driving a four-door silver Mercury was driving west on 17th Street, left the roadway to the right and hit the edge of the brick sign which Is about two feet thick. The collision ripped the front driver's side fender off the car and caused the driver's airbag to deploy.

There was no victim on the scene when the police arrived.

An official on the scene said that at first it did not look to be a stolen car because the steering column was still intact, but when the TPD was on scene the owner of the car called to report it stolen.
