NORMAN, Oklahoma -- Oklahoma City police are digging in the backyard of a Norman home, searching for what may be the remains of a missing woman.
Angela Biggers disappeared December 6, 2010. Investigators believe the 48-year-old was killed by her boyfriend, 34-year-old Ronald Banks. Banks was arrested December 11 in Fort Worth, Texas, at a bus stop. He was charged with first-degree murder, although police had not located Biggers' body.
Police began digging at 1100 Fountain Gate Court Thursday afternoon. A police spokesperson said detectives received "credible information" that Biggers' body was buried in a shallow grave in the backyard.
"Anytime you're excavating a grave, or what you believe to be a grave that contains human remains, it's a process, an extremely systematic process where other professionals are brought in because there's a collection of evidence you have to worry about," Oklahoma City Police Captain Patrick Stewart said.
Neighbors said no one has lived in the house for some time.
Biggers' family was notified about the search and said they are holding out hope police find clues to the 48-year-old's disappearance.
"You don't play God and mess with people's lives, especially when they have daughters, grand babies, you don't do it," said Linda Owens, Biggers' niece.
The hardest part for family has been Banks' refusal to tell them where Angela Biggers is.
"Hold out as long as long as you want to. Think what you did is good for yourself and whatever you think is right was wrong and what we can't do for you, God will take care of you," said Owens.
As of Thursday night, police has still not found any signs of human remains, but Capt. Stewart said the excavation process takes time.
"Your goal is not to just get to the bottom, but preserve any physical evidence that might be there," said Stewart.
Police will continue the excavation process Friday morning.
