TULSA, Oklahoma -- There have been new developments in the controversy over paying for the Tulsa Driller's home, ONEOK Field.
Some downtown property owners sued the City of Tulsa over a special property tax they're paying because of the ball park. On Thursday, a judge ruled in favor of the City and City Council – determining that there was a basis for setting up the special tax district.
"We are pleased with today's verdict," said Stan Lybarger, chairman of the Tulsa Stadium Trust. "All along, we have had the support of a vast majority of property owners."
Lybarger said that since the ballpark's construction began, 15 major projects estimated at about $205 million have begun in downtown Tulsa, including the Mathews Building renovation.
"Plus, we are seeing increased property values within the IDL. Clearly there is a benefit to property owners in the assessment district as confirmed by today's verdict."
