TULSA, Oklahoma -- The students at Mingo Valley Christian School are helping people in need. They wrapped up their food drive for John 3:16 Mission Friday. They collected a grand total of 17,000 pounds of food.

The drive is an annual leadership project for the sixth graders who are in charge of motivating teams to bring in the food.

It's a project that's close to heart for the school superintendent.

"My family was the recipient of this kind of food when I was growing up, so I know exactly what kind of impact this can have on a family," said Dennis Queen, Mingo Valley Christian School superintendent.

The food drive was postponed twice this year because of the weather.
