MUSKOGEE, Oklahoma -- The husband of a woman who disappeared in 1999 has reportedly confessed to her murder, just hours after her remains were found.

Muskogee Police detectives and Muskogee County Sheriff's deputies discovered the remains of 37-year-old Carol Grannon Thursday thanks to a tip.

Her remains were found less than a hundred yards from where she was last seen, in the 1100 block of Turner Street in Muskogee in 1999. She had left a home in the area to run errands and never returned.

Grannon's husband, Jeff, is in custody and the Muskogee County Sheriff says he has confessed to her murder.

Investigators say the case came to a point Wednesday night when Jeff Grannon's son, Josh, was arrested in a drug raid at a Muskogee motel. They say Josh confessed to police what happened to his step-mother and told investigators where to find her body.

Laura Walker has known Carol Grannon since the fourth grade. The pair eventually became sisters-in-law.

"It's kind of surreal because all of these years, you know, prayed and prayed and prayed," Walker said.

Faye Banks was an original investigator when Grannon disappeared. She says detectives never stopped looking and are relieved this day has come.

"All kinds of stuff are going through my mind. I'm happy for the family, I'm happy that we're getting somewhere with the case," Banks said.

Eddie Walker, a sheriff's investigator, is Carol Grannon's ex-husband and father to two of her four children.

"It's a sad day for them today and at the same time they're happy too because the guy that murdered their mother is in jail today," he said.

Jeff Grannon's mother still lives in the house from where Carol Grannon was last seen. She says she doesn't know anything about the case and is devastated her son may have been involved.

"If he confessed to it then evidently he did it," Lillie Grannon said. "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry."

Carol Grannon's bones will be sent to the state Medical Examiner's office in Tulsa.

The sheriff believes Jeff Grannon acted alone to kill Carol but believe he had helped disposing of her body.

Josh Grannon was a juvenile at the time and detectives are still trying to sort out what role he playeed and what charges he should face.
