TULSA, Oklahoma -- Project Warmth got a boost – and a blanket – from a Bartlesville children's ministry. Heart 4 Children Ministries brought the gift of hand-quilted blankets and sleeping mats to the organization on Wednesday.

About 50 volunteers from Oklahoma made the blankets from donated materials.

"A lot of heart went into this," said Jim Snell, treasurer of Heart 4 Children Ministries. "Most of these have got notes that are written on them by the people who made them, expressing their love for the kids and letting them know that they've done this specifically for them."

John Selph, former Tulsa county commissioner and CEO of Volunteers of America, accepted the sleeping mats on behalf of Project Warmth. He said there are many needy and deserving local children in need of the blankets. His organization helped one Tulsa girl who had only a towel to sleep under.

"This is special, and this is going to make a lot of children very happy," he said.

Heart 4 Children is a volunteer group headed by Mikaela Hulstine to help kids who have suffered from abuse. One ministry is teaching the children new skills.

"We help abused children develop self esteem through learning skills like sewing and crocheting," Hulstine said.

"With these skills they will be making items for themselves and hopefully will want to make some to share with other children in the United States and around the world."
