MANNFORD, Oklahoma – Mannford First United Methodist Church has shut down its preschool after the director's husband was arrested for using his children to help manufacture meth, according to the church's pastor.

Reverend Dave Jenkins told News On 6 the church decided to close the school after Michael Hagar's arrest last week.  Michael Hagar is the husband of the preschool's director, Freda Hagar.

Michael Hagar, 39, was arrested on complaints of endeavoring to manufacture methamphetamine, child endangerment and possession of meth.

Mannford Police said Hagar's three sons; ages 10, 14, and 17, told officers they helped their father cook meth and were rewarded for their help with meth and marijuana.

Jenkins said the Hagars were members of the church when he was hired about four years ago. He said, at the time, Freda was an "effective" classroom teacher who had passed extensive background checks.

Jenkins said the Hagars had five children, two biological and three adopted.

Jenkins said financial reasons also played a factor in shutting down the school.  He said enrollment was down.
