TULSA, Oklahoma -- Infrared video from the Tulsa Police Department's helicopter of a police chase early Thursday morning shows how difficult it is to run from the chopper.

The chase began when an officer spotted a stolen car near 36th and Sheridan.

Police say that when the officer turned his lights on, the suspect, identified as Brandon Ford, led officers across north and east Tulsa.

Since the camera on the helicopter sees heat, anything that's hot in the video appears to be white.

During the chase the car drove over two separate spike strips which flattened two tires on the right side.  The video shows the heat generated by the shredded tires and the rims rolling on the pavement.  It also shows pieces of hot rubber flying off the tires.

The chase ended near Pine and Toledo after the car spun out.  The suspect got out and ran, but the helicopter was able to track him down.

Tulsa Police say patrol cars backed off once the police helicopter got involved in the chase, making it safer for the police and the public.
