CLAREMORE, Oklahoma --The proper use of child restraints in cars during the past 30 years has saved the lives of 8,325 children under age five, according to research by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

However, Safe Kids Oklahoma has found that four out of five cars seats are used incorrectly.

Make sure your kids are buckled in correctly by attending a car seat safety check for all Rogers County residents from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 19 at the Claremore Fire Department Station No. 2 at 1601 W. Will Rogers in Claremore.

If you have ever wondered why your car seat doesn't stay tight in the car, when it's safe to turn your baby's seat to face forward or what to do if your child can climb out of their seat, bring your car seat to this event. Certified safety technicians will be provide hands-on instruction on installing car seats and booster seats and answer any questions parents may have.

There will also be a limited number of free child safety seats for eligible families (must have proof of government assistance, i.e. WIC, food stamps, etc.).

The county-wide car seat check will be hosted by Safe Kids Oklahoma, the Claremore Fire Department and the Rogers County Health Department.
