HOMINY, Oklahoma -- An historic site you might not know about is standing tall in Hominy in Osage County.

At an old home in Hominy, crews are reshingling. They'll also do some work on the sleeping porch and make other renovations. It's good to see, because the home is worth preserving.

"It's something you're not prepared to find here in the small town of Hominy," Beverly Whitcomb, Historic Site Manager, said.

The Drummond home is a landmark house once owned by one of Oklahoma's most well known ranching families. Frederic and Adeline Drummond finished building the home in 1905.

"The man was originally from Scotland. And he actually immigrated here in the middle 1800's," Whitcomb said. "The city just pretty much grew up around it."

The six-bedroom Victorian style home features all of the original furnishings, accented with personal touches like old photos and old college pennants that help tell the story of the Drummond family.

Attention is given to detail.

"These are Mrs. Drummond's makeup; perfume; her hat pins," Whitcomb said.

The three story sandstone home, with its 12 foot ceilings and beautiful wood lattice work, is now owned and operated by the Oklahoma Historical Society.

"The home is 5,300 square feet and that does include the basement that runs almost the whole length of the house," Whitcomb said.

Whitcomb has a fondness for the old home and says visitors will too, as they get a glimpse of early day Oklahoma in a home full of character and history.

"That is one of the reasons that it is probably," she said. "It's a true treasure."

The Drummond Home is open Wednesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and on Sunday afternoons from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.
