OKLAHOMA CITY -- An Oklahoma City mother was arrested after police said she gave her 2-month-old child alcohol.
Officers were called to a home in northwest Oklahoma City Thursday, March 10 in reference to an infant ingesting alcohol. When they arrived, EMSA was on the scene and had placed the infant on a stretcher. According to the report, the officer could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage while standing outside the rear doors of the ambulance.
Rayniqua Lashelle Poole, 18, told officers that when she prepared her child's bottle that morning, she mistakenly used gin instead of water to mix the powdered formula. She went back to sleep after giving her child the bottle, and it was only when she woke up and checked the water bottle again that she realized her mistake.
Poole said she had friends over the day before who had brought some gin. Poole claimed the gin was in the same type of bottle she used to keep water for her child's formula.
According to the report, officers also smelled a strong odor of marijuana when Poole was placed in the patrol car.
According to the police report, officers told Poole her child would be OK, so she could stop crying, and she responded by saying, "That's not what I'm worried about."
Poole was booked into the Oklahoma County jail on one complaint of child neglect. The child was placed in DHS custody.
