TULSA, Oklahoma -- More than a150 bright yellow balloons floated up into the skies over Tulsa Monday. And with that balloon release, Youth Services launched National Safe Place Week.
Safe Place is an outreach program that helps youth in crisis. Each balloon represents a Safe Place site in Tulsa County.
"When a person walks into the safe place site that site calls our shelter and the shelter calls a volunteer in the area to see if they can talk with the young person and usually bring them here," said Jim Walker, Youth Services of Tulsa Exe Dir.
Safe places are marked with a yellow sign at places like QuikTrip, Fire Stations and on Tulsa Transit Buses.
Just last year, more than 500 youth used Safe Places services.
