News On 6, Amateur Astronomer Capture Bright Light Shooting Across Oklahoma Sky

TULSA, Oklahoma – Oklahomans can't stop talking about the streak of light seen shooting across the sky Wednesday night.

The News On 6 caught the light live as it streaked across the Tulsa sky.

It can be seen in the sky behind News On 6 Chief Meteorologist Travis Meyer as he delivered his weather forecast during Wednesday night's 9 p.m. newscast. The streak is visible for almost five seconds.

Amateur astronomer James Beauchamp visited Six in the Morning Friday to discuss how he got video of what was most likely a meteor falling from space.

"They're very common, it's just that people don't see them very often. It just happens we had a clear sky," Beauchamp told Six in the Morning anchors LeAnne Taylor and Rich Lenz.

Wayne Harris-Wyrick, an astronomer with over 30 years experience working at the Science Museum, said it was most likely a meteor the size of a walnut falling from space. He said 20,000 pounds of debris that fall through earth's atmosphere every day.
