TULSA, Oklahoma -- Tulsa's Young Professionals are hosting "Polishing the Pearl," a free Street CReD event benefiting the Pearl District revitalization project.

There will be entertainment for the whole family from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 15 and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 16 at 6th and Peoria Avenue. Performers scheduled to appear include the Drillers, Tulsa Shock, bands, dancers and more.

There will be food and entertainment for the whole family. There's no cost for the event, though vendors will have food and beverages for sale.

The group hopes to add the Pearl District to the list of Tulsa's best-known and most-frequented hot spots – like Brookside, Cherry Street and the Blue Dome district – that are now known as attractive areas for entertainment and tourism.

The Pearl District will have its "first taste" of the same kind of makeover next weekend, according to Brian Paschal, executive director of Tulsa's Young Professionals.

"This area is a natural corridor for downtown Tulsa and is traveled by Tulsans every day," said Brian Paschal, executive director of Tulsa's Young Professionals.

"Hardly anyone notices the potential it has to be a great place for entertainment, food, fun, business, shopping and more."

A little effort can give new life to the "forgotten neighborhood" that takes up about one-half square mile located between U.S. Highway 75 and Utica, Interstate 244 and 11th Street (Historic Route 66).

The makeover, complete with a tree-lined median and vendor store fronts, will focus on walkability, revitalization and urbanization and will allow business across Tulsa a taste of what this kind of effort throughout our city could mean for their futures.

"Urbanization speaks to a younger generation. Tulsa has so many wonderful opportunities for this kind of revitalization environment that would attract young professionals, building our workforce and developing Tulsa into an economically booming, high-quality metro," said Paschal.
