Murrah Federal Building Bombing: 16 Years Later

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Hundreds of people gathered Tuesday morning at the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum to remember the victims of the Murrah Federal Building bombing.

The explosion killed 168 people on April 19, 1995. Oklahomans vowed never to forget. Now, 16 years later, survivors and family members met downtown to remember the loved ones they lost.

The ceremony began at 8:45 a.m. with a bagpipe procession. At 9:02 a.m, the time the bomb went off, there were 168 seconds of silence; one second for each victim.

At 9:05 a.m., attendees bowed their heads in prayer, then listened to the national anthem.

Governor Mary Fallin, who was Oklahoma's lieutenant governor at the time, spoke at the ceremony.  She praised the courage and strength of Oklahomans in the face of the terror attack, and vowed the victims would never be forgotten.

Family members and survivors then read the names of all 168 bombing victims.

To mark the day, admission to the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum will be free all day. It opens at 10 a.m. and the last entry into the museum is 5 o'clock.
