Kids Hunt For Hidden Treasures At Tulsa Zoo's Archaeological Dig

TULSA, Oklahoma -- Green Country kids can now get a hands-on lesson in archeology.

The Tulsa Zoo officially opened its new Hardesty Gem Dig on Friday. For $3, kids can hunt for fossils, shells and gemstones in an area modeled after an authentic dig site.

"You read it in books, you see photos, but it's just not the same as really getting in there and getting your hands dirty," Angela Evans, with The Tulsa Zoo, said. "And, so that's what this is really all about; it's that interactive. So, while they're having fun we're slipping in a little education on 'em too."

Kids even get to keep what they find at the dig or they can trade-in their treasures for something else at the Cox Nature Exchange.
