SAPULPA, Oklahoma -- The Sapulpa Creek Indian Community honored two of Oklahoma's own Wednesday.

Ann Holder and Phillip Coon are the community's oldest man and woman. As it turns out, they have a lot in common: both were born on the same day in 1919 and both served during World War II.

Ann served in the Women's Army Corps monitoring wiretapped calls from politicians in Washington D.C.

Phillip was in the infantry, captured by the Japanese and survived the Bataan Death March. Words can't describe what he endured, never knowing if he'd make it back home to Green Country.

"Every day was taken a day at a time. Nothing's for tomorrow. Tomorrow might not make it for today," he said.

May is Older Americans Month, so the Sapulpa Creek Indian Community decided it was the perfect time to recognize its eldest members.
