CATOOSA, Oklahoma -- A man was critically injured after a three-vehicle wreck that closed both eastbound lanes of Interstate 44 near 193rd East Avenue in Catoosa during the morning commute Friday.

Troopers at the scene said the wreck was caused when the driver of a GMC pickup, Kenneth Adams, 46, experienced medical problems, probably from diabetes. Adams came to a complete stop in the left lane of the highway and was hit from behind by a white Chevy Impala driven by 30-year-old Paul Meeker.

The Impala spun out and was hit by a Toyota Tundra. Meeker was pinned in the heavily damaged Impala and was later freed by the Tulsa Fire Department.

The driver of the Impala was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Adams and the driver of the Toyota were not injured, according to an accident report.

There were several additional wrecks along Interstate 244 during Friday during the heavy rainfall.
