TULSA, Oklahoma -- The Tulsa City Council honored a longtime Tulsa Police homicide detective Thursday, who is retiring after 35 years on the job. Sergeant Mike Huff is retiring at the end of May, but plans to volunteer for the department afterward.

City Councilor Rick Westcott read a proclamation honoring Huff and said "You hear about heroes all the time. This is one of those guys. This is a hero. We can never pay him back for what he's done to protect us."

Westcott specifically mentioned Huff's determination during the Roger Wheeler murder investigation.

Sergeant Huff spoke briefly at the meeting and said "You already paid me back. You gave me the best job in the world, in the best city in the world."

Huff was also issued a key to the city during the ceremony.
