News On 6 asked people on Facebook what they do and where they go when a tornado strikes. Surprisingly, several Oklahomans admitted, they don't know what they'd do.

Brittney Freeman said her family has always had an emergency plan. She said she remembers as a child, hiding in the closet with her parents, terrified of the roaring storms.

"The real danger with tornadoes isn't so much the wind, it's the debris," Tim Lovell, Tulsa Partners, said.

Oklahoma's Emergency Management and Tulsa Partners say get in, get down, and cover up.

Freeman said her husband Donnie, six-year-old son Tray and their two dogs have taken cover twice this year.

"He thinks it is really cool because he gets to wear his baseball helmet in the bathtub," she said.

A cool helmet and some video games keep her son calm. And she's uses a piece of cheese lure the dogs into the bathroom.

Freeman stresses the importance of an emergency kit. She keeps water under the sink and life-saving medical supplies within reach.

"I think that it's so important to plan it," she said. "At least talk about it because if you don't know, or have any type of plan, you could lose your family and that's most important."

Tim Lovell with Tulsa Partners says Oklahoman's joke that severe weather is a spectator sport. The absolute worst thing you can do is go outside and watch.
