CANNES, France -- A Bartlesville man turned Hollywood director wins the top prize at the Cannes Film Festival last week in France.

Terrence Malick won for his new movie "The Tree of Life."

The film is described as a meditative, meta-physical epic starring Brad Pitt and Sean Penn.

Malick, who lived in Bartlesville as a child, is known for directing the movies "The Thin Red Line," "The New World," "Badlands" and "Days Of Heaven."

Sources says Malick was the director of a film shot last fall in Bartlesville.
