OSAGE COUNTY -- Two Pawhuska residents were struck and killed by semi early Thursday morning on state Highway 99 when they got out of their car, after it struck two cows in the road.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says 46-year-old Eva Johnson and 41-year-old Johnia Mashunkashey were passengers in a car northbound on highway 99 just north of Wynona just after midnight.  That car struck two cows in the road.

A second vehicle, a Chevy truck approaching from the other direction stopped and pulled off the road.

Shortly thereafter, a northbound semi struck the Chevy truck, then struck the woman's car and then hit the two women.

Both Johnson and Mashunkashey were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi was taken by ambulance to the Cleveland hospital, where he was treated and released.
