A total of five OU and OSU players were named to Associated Press All-American teams announced Tuesday, including Trent Williams and Russell Okung sweeping the first-team offensive tackle positions.
Williams and Okung have consistently been named among the best offensive linemen in the nation. Both of them faced Texas A&M defensive end Von Miller – the national leader in sacks with 17 – and both of them shut him down.
The Sooners had one player named to each of the AP’s three teams: Williams on the first team, defensive tackle Gerald McCoy on the second team and defensive end Jeremy Beal on the third team. McCoy recorded 13 tackles for loss, and Beal is tied for 10th in the nation with 11 sacks.
In addition to Okung, OSU cornerback Perrish Cox was named to the second team. Cox finished the regular season with four interceptions and was a game-changer as a kick and punt returner. He led the Cowboys in both categories and ranked No. 25 in the nation with 10.42 yards per punt return.
Top-ranked Alabama led all teams with six first-team All-Americans, including unanimous selection and Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram. There were a total of four unanimous first-team selections: Ingram, teammate Rolando McClain, Stanford running back Toby Gerhart and Nebraska defensive tackle Ndamokung Suh.
