NORMAN, Oklahoma -- DeMarco Murray will return to the University of Oklahoma for his senior season, a source confirmed to Oklahoma Sports’s Toby Rowland on Friday.

The running back was slowed by injuries and an inexperienced offensive line in 2009, rushing for 705 yards and eight touchdowns – both career lows.

"I felt I wasn't done here," Murray said to ESPN's Joe Schad. "I still had some more things I wanted to get accomplished with my teammates and become a better player as well."

He burst onto the scene in 2007, scoring very well in combine activities, including the 40-yard dash and vertical jump. That season, he tied Adrian Peterson’s freshman touchdown record with 15.

Murray’s 2008 campaign was even better, rushing for 1,002 yards and 14 touchdowns. Despite missing the BCS Championship game with a hamstring injury, he set OU’s single-season record with 2,171 all-purpose yards.

Oklahoma Sports previously reported that Murray was leaning towards a return to Oklahoma despite being eligible to enter the National Football League Draft.

The soon-to-be senior is generally seen is being outside the top tier of running backs eligible for the 2010 NFL Draft and his return provides an attempt to improve his draft stock.
