NORMAN, Oklahoma -- The No. 12 Sooners outscored, out-rebounded and out-hussled the Colorado Buffaloes to earn their eighth conference win, 65-55.
Oklahoma jumped ahead 11 points within the first few minutes and dominated offensively, holding a big lead most of the game. The Buffs came within five points of the Sooners twice, both midway through the first half. It was the closest Colorado would come to catching the Sooners.
OU led 42-24 by halftime, with Amanda Thompson leading with nine points, followed by Danielle Robinson with seven points and six rebounds.
The Sooners hit five of their 10 shots from behind the arc and nine of their 10 free-throw attempts. Sherri Coale’s team capitalized off the Buff’s turnovers, scoring 13 points off Colorado’s sloppy offense.
The Buff’s strength in the first quarter was in their ability to score off second-chance points, earning six points in their favor. Colorado had 11 points off turnovers and was able to rely on their bench for six points.
The Sooners held roughly a 20-point lead throughout the second half until the 2:00 mark, when Colorado narrowed the difference to 14 points. A couple of three pointers and a layup would help the Buffs late in the game, but they would end the game 10 points behind the Sooners.
Colorado’s Brittany Spears was the Buff’s top scorer with 28 points, while also leading with nine rebounds. Alyssa Fressle ended the game with 11 points.
The Sooners’ Thompson led the team in scoring with 16 points, including all five of her shots at the charity line. Nyeshia Stevenson followed with 10 points, while Robinson lead with six assists and five steals.
Altogether, the Sooners scored 24 points in the paint and were able to convert turnovers for 23 points.
