STILLWATER, Oklahoma -- Oklahoma State (30-7) held off Missouri State (8-18) 3-2 to claim its seventh-straight win and became only the third team to claim its 30th win.
Anna Whiddon was dominant for most of the game, pitching a complete game and only allowing two hits and striking out 11. However, the two hits she gave up were both solo home runs that allowed the Bears to close the gap to one in the seventh inning.
The game remained scoreless through four innings until Chelsea Garcia hit a solo home run in the first at-bat of the fifth. Breanna Casaus would add to the lead when she scored on an illegal pitch, and Julie Ward singled to center to bring Mariah Gerhart home, giving the Cowgirls a 3-0 lead.
Missouri State got on the board in the next inning with an Ashley Knehans solo home run to left field in the first at bat of the inning. In the second at bat of the seventh inning, Caitlin Chapin homered to right center to close the gap to one run.
Whiddon retired the next two batters by a strike out and a ground out to end the game and the Bears’ threat.
Oklahoma State resumes conference play Friday in Columbia, Mo. against the Missouri Tigers.
