Texas Tech Offense too much for Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Oklahoma -- The Texas Tech bats proved to be too much for Oklahoma State Saturday, and the Red Raiders topped the Cowboys 5-4.

OSU (18-11, 3-5) got on the board first on a Mark Ginther sacrifice fly to bring Davis Duren home.

Texas Tech (16-18, 5-6) responded in the next inning when Michael Reed doubled to center to score Jeremy Mayo to tie the game at 1-1. In the fourth, the Red Raiders expanded their lead with a Mayo solo home run to left to expand the lead.

Tyler Lyons struggled in the fourth for the Cowboys and walked Jamodrick McGruder with the bases loaded to score Reed. Lyons received the loss, pitching 6 2/3 innings, giving up 10 hits and five earned runs.

The Cowboys tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning on a Nico Rosthenhausler two-run home run to left field. But the Red Raiders responded once again in the next inning.

Reed singled up the middle to score Barrett Barnes, who stole second after reaching on a bunt, to give Texas Tech a 4-3 lead. They added to their lead in the top of the seventh on another Mayo solo home run, this time in the first at-bat of the inning.

Oklahoma State closed the gap to one in the bottom of the seventh with a Duren sacrifice fly to right field to bring Dean Green home.

Chad Bettis came in for the Red Raiders and retired five straight to end the game, securing the win for Bobby Doran. Doran pitched 6 1/3 innings for Texas Tech, surrendering four hits, three earned runs and four strikeouts.

The Cowboys and the Red Raiders decide the season series at 1 p.m. Sunday in Stillwater.
