TULSA, Oklahoma – If opponents didn’t know who he was before, there’s no hiding now. Carlese Franklin lit up the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz last weekend for five total touchdowns in a 67-41 win.
At halftime, the Yard Dawgz had scored three touchdowns.
So had Franklin.
“Carlese just keeps on improving every single week,” said Talons head coach Mitch Allner. “He’s a good ball player.”
The league rewarded Franklin’s outstanding effort with its JLS Ironman of the Week award. Sometimes lost in the shuffle, Franklin has found a way into the limelight. The third-year receiver from McNeese State outplayed fellow stars Donovan Morgan and Jeff Hughley against Oklahoma City. The Yard Dawgz had no answer for him on defense.
Franklin has made plays any way Allner has asked him to. Last Saturday, he rushed for 17 yards and a pair of touchdowns and also caught five passes for three scores. In all, he finished with 79 total yards from scrimmage.
“He’s extremely fast with great hands,” said Allner. “He’s playing great.”
His breakout night helped lead the Tulsa Talons put some space between them and the Battle Wings in the divisional race. Tulsa is 4-3 this season heading into a showdown with Bossier-Shreveport on May 29th.
