Sooners Eliminated in Doubleheader by Washington in Super Regional

Oklahoma was shut out in both games as the Sooners season came to an end against Washington.

SEATTLE -- Washington advanced to the Women’s College World Series by defeating Oklahoma in a doubleheader Saturday. The defending national champions beat Oklahoma 3-0 in Game 2 of the super regional and 4-0 in Game 3 of the Super Regional.Huskie pitcher Danielle Lawrie struck out 26 batters in and did not allow a run in 14 innings Friday.

Oklahoma finished the season with a 47-12 record.

OU-0 Wash-4


Shawna Wright hit a three-run home run in the first inning to give the Huskies a 3-0 lead. She would reach base in bottom of the fifth and steal second before Amanda Fitzsimmons came in to pinch run.

Fitzsimmons would score later in the inning on an OU error. The Sooners committed four errors in Game 3.

Oklahoma had a prime opportunity to break the game open in the top of the fifth. The Sooners had the bases loaded with two outs but Jessica Shults struck out to end the inning.

Keilani Ricketts was tagged with her second straight loss after allowing four runs (two earned) in six innings.

Lawrie threw her second straight shutout striking out 16 batters while going the distance.


OU-0 Wash-3

Washington held Oklahoma scoreless and only gave up two hits as the Huskies downed the Sooners 3-0 in Game 2 of the Super Regional Friday.

Taylor Smith drove in the first and last runs of the game. Smith hit an RBI double in the top of the second inning to give Washington an early 1-0 lead. She knocked in the final run on a fielder’s choice in the sixth inning.

Kimi Pohlman scored on the previous play to give the Huskies a 2-0 advantage.

Keilani Ricketts gets tagged with the loss for the Sooners after allowing three earned runs on six hits in six innings.

Danielle Lawrie went the distance, striking out 10 batters to earn the victory for the Huskies.
