TULSA, Oklahoma – The Tulsa Shock will be without one of its biggest weapons when the team takes on Atlanta Wednesday morning. Shock guard Shanna Crossley has been hospitalized with a staph infection, according to the team’s website.

Crossley was admitted to the hospital Sunday night for treatment. Staph infections must be treated with antibiotics.

Infections are common in areas where many people live closely together in group situations, like a dorm, hotel or locker room. Infections spread from sharing things like clothing, linens and towels, and are most common in warm environments. Constant sweating heightens the chances of getting the infection.

Staph infections can last for weeks but usually pass within ten days if treated quickly. Crossley will most likely miss Tulsa’s games against the New York Liberty on Friday and the Seattle Storm on Sunday.

Crossley is one of the Shock’s most accurate 3-point shooters, hitting 40 percent of her shots from long range. Through 11 games this season, Crossley is averaging 10.6 points and 2.5 assists per game.
