Landry Jones: I Am Second

NORMAN, Oklahoma – The transition to college from high school was a tough one for Landry Jones.

After starring in multiple sports and receiving constant praise, Jones went through some growing pains in his first years for the Sooners.

He lived in the shadow of Heisman winner Sam Bradford and struggled to find meaning in life as he also struggled on the football field.

That’s when Jones said he found what he had been missing: God’s presence.

“This is when God comes in and just drastically changes my life,” Jones said in his new video. “It was literally God showing up in the room saying, ‘Here I am, Landry. You’ve been going through all these things. You’ve been chasing after worldly dreams,’ and he freed me from all the depression I had.

“It was probably one of the greatest moments of my life.”

Following in the footsteps of former Big 12 players such as Sam Bradford and Colt McCoy as well as plenty of other big name athletes and celebrities, Jones has opened up about his faith in a video for the "I am Second" movement.

"I am Second" is a movement "meant to inspire people of all kinds to live for God and others," according to the website.

Jones said in his video he felt worthless after struggling to perform in his early years at Oklahoma.

Although he has turned his career around, garnered multiple accolades, set records and led his team to a Top 15 BCS ranking so far this year, Jones said the biggest reward has not come on the football field.

It has come from a feeling more important than any feeling winning a football game could ever provide.

“I just remember feeling so much love just pouring into me and (God) saying he didn’t care where I was,” Jones said. “He didn’t care what I had done. All he wanted was me. Instead of Landry Jones the athlete I was Landry Jones the son of God.”
