MAUI, Hawaii – Despite the beautiful setting, the Sooners did not play beautifully on the court Monday in Maui.

The No. 9 Kentucky Wildcats knocked off the Sooners 76-64, handing OU its first loss of the season and an opening-round loss in the EA Sports Maui Invitational.

The Sooners hung close for much of the evening, trailing by only six with less than two minutes left in the game.

The Wildcats started off quickly out of the gate, making its first six attempts from the field and building a 21-8 lead.

But late in the game, it was the Sooners who were making the run, outscoring Kentucky 21-9 toward the end of the contest to pull to within six.

Over the final 1:16, the Wildcats finished off the game with an 8-2 run to seal their victory and advance on the winners’ side of the bracket.

Cade Davis led OU with 23 points, 17 of which came in the first half. Forward Andrew Fitzgerald added 14 points and seven boards.

Freshman forward Terrance Jones exploded for Kentucky with 29 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks.

OU will take on the loser of the Virginia-Washington game on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. central.
