Thunder Signs Collison to Multi-year Extension

Nick Collison has signed a multi-year extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

OKLAHOMA CITY– The Oklahoma City Thunder have signed forward Nick Collison to a multi-year contract extension.

“I am thrilled to continue my career with the Thunder organization,” said Collison. “I have spent many years with the franchise and I am excited to continue building with this group of players. I am looking forward to what the future holds for this team and community.”

Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti made the announcement Tuesday but per team policy, the terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

“Nick Collison has shown an unwavering commitment to our organization through his willingness to accept various roles and his dedication to his teammates throughout his seven-year career with our franchise,” said Presti. “He brings a smart, physical, and hard working approach to our defense and is one of our most active players in the community. We are thrilled that Nick will remain a core member of our team and continue his career with the franchise that drafted him.”

So far this season Collison is averaging 4.5 points and 4.0 rebounds in six games thus far.

The University of Kansas product returned to play this season after a bruised right knee cause him to miss the first eight games.

The six-foot-ten-inch forward has a career average of 7.7 points and 6.6 rebounds per game in 460 career NBA games, all of which have been played with the Thunder organization.

Collison was originally drafted as the 12th overall pick in the 2003 NBA draft by the Oklahoma City Franchise.

He currently is the franchise’s either leading all-time rebounder with 3,013 career rebounds, 10th in all-time career blocks with 309 and third in field goal percentage with .529.

As a senior at Kansas he was named an Associated Press First Team All-America selection and Big 12 Player of the Year.

Collison was also named to the 2003 NCAA All-Final Four Team after leading Kansas to the Championship Game. The Iowa Falls native left KU as the second leading scorer with 2,097 points and third leading rebounder with 1,143 boards in school history.
