NORMAN, Oklahoma – Saturday’s Bedlam game is one of the most anticipated in series history because it will ultimately decide what team wins the Big 12 South.

But that is not the only reason it is historic.

Saturday will also mark the final time that iconic radio broadcaster Bob Barry, Sr. will call a Bedlam football game. Barry has had a long and distinguished career in the booth as a play-by-play announcer for both Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

Barry began his career at OU when head football coach Bud Wilkinson selected him to be the voice of the Sooners. He joined OSU in 1973 and served the Cowboys until 1990 before ultimately switching back to OU in 1991.

Barry said he has always appreciated the kindness of Oklahomans, regardless of their side in the Bedlam rivalry, because both sides welcomed him.

Barry was named Oklahoma Sportscaster of the Year an incredible 15 times. He formerly served on the Board of Directors of the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association and was inducted into the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame.

Barry’s unique voice and passion for the game attracted fans from across the state, and he said it is those qualities that he wants people to remember.
