TULSA, Oklahoma – The Tulsa men’s basketball team never trailed Thursday in a 92-67 blowout of Texas-San Antonio.
The two teams traded runs as the game. Tulsa (6-6) started on a 9-0 run, but UTSA (6-4) responded with the same. The Golden Hurricane immediately went on a 10-0 run to take a 19-9 lead, and it was smooth sailing from there.
TU continued to gradually build its lead throughout the night and never gave UTSA a chance to come back. The Roadrunners trailed by double digits for the entire second half.
Tulsa shot well all night, especially from beyond the arc. The Hurricane made a total of 13 3-pointers, include six each by Justin Hurtt and Scottie Haralson.
Hurtt led all scorers with 33 points, and Steven Idlet scored 20. Haralson finished with 18 points – all on 3-pointers – and D.J. Magley added 10 points and eight rebounds.
UTSA had significantly more shooting problems. No Roadrunner player shot better than 50 percent, and the team as a whole finished shooting 36 percent. Melvin Johnson scored 17 and Devin Gibson added 13, but they were the only players to score in double figures.
Tulsa’s 25-point margin of victory is its largest of the season and marked just the Hurricane’s second win in the month of December. TU will have a week off before hosting TCU at 7 p.m. on Dec. 30.
