OXFORD, Miss. – Mississippi head coach Houston Nutt announced Wednesday that former Oklahoma State assistant Gunter Brewer has joined the Rebels’ coaching staff.

Brewer served on the Cowboys’ staff for a total of six years, most recently as co-offensive coordinator and receivers coach. He previously served as receivers coach at Marshall and North Carolina, and has coached three Biletnikoff Award finalists – Justin Blackmon, Dez Bryant and Randy Moss.

“Gunter has coached and recruited names like Randy Moss, Dez Bryant and Justin Blackmon, and it's exciting to have him on our staff,” Nutt said in a statement. “He is an outstanding recruiter, and what he has done in the passing game in recent years is remarkable.”

Brewer is the son of former Ole Miss head coach Billy Brewer, and served two stints as a graduate assistant there at the beginning of his coaching career. He will serve as the Rebels’ passing game coordinator and associate head coach, and will try to turn around a passing offense that finished No. 81 in the nation last season.

Brewer is now the third OSU assistant to leave the team this offseason, all on the offensive side of the ball. He joins former offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen and running backs coach Robert Gillespie, both of whom left for West Virginia.
