Quinton Carter Honored with Wooden Citizen Cup

NORMAN, Oklahoma – University of Oklahoma safety Quinton Carter has been named the recipient of the seventh annual Wooden Citizenship Cup.

The Wooden Cup is named in honor of John Wooden, the late UCLA basketball coaching legend. The cup recognizes those athletes whose character represents the highest and best in sport, and who make the greatest difference in the lives of others.

The Las Vegas native has served the SOUL Organization, Norman Kindercare, the Oklahoma City Marathon, the University Center for Student Advancement and the OU Black Graduate Student Association.

On the field, Carter was OU’s third-leading tackler in 2010 with a career-high 96. He also had four interceptions.

Currently, Carter is in Mobile, Ala., preparing for the Senior Bowl. That game will be played on Jan. 29, at 3 p.m. It will be televised by the NFL Network.

Carter, who completed his eligibility with the 2010 season, was previously named to the American Football Coaches Association 11-member Good Works Team, also in honor of his community service.

Carter is the second Oklahoma athlete to receive the award. Cross country runner Jackie Dubois was cited in 2003. OU football player Jacob Gutierrez was a finalist that same year. Another Sooner football player, Carl Pendleton, was a finalist in 2007.

Other finalists for this year’s award were Kimberly Reeves, basketball, Agnes Scott College; Greg McElroy, football, University of Alabama; Sarah Lehman, basketball, Amherst College and Daniel Crawford, football, Denison University.
