ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Oklahoma Sooners’ Casey Johnson hit his first homer of the season to tie OU up with the University of Texas-Arlington, 3-3 in the seventh inning. The Sooners squeaked ahead for the 4-3 win in the next inning, when Max White crossed the plate on a wild pitch.

Oklahoma and UTA went scoreless in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

The Mavericks were led by Sam Hensen, who struggled on the mound, finishing with the loss after throwing just 0.1 innings, giving up one run and walking three batters. The Mavs used four relief pitchers in their pursuit of the win, but couldn’t compete with the Sooners’ Dillon Overton, a freshman from Weatherford, Oklahoma.

Why did Dillon Overton forgo a career with the Boston Red Sox to play for the Sooners?

Overton threw five innings, striking out six batters and giving up two hits. Jack Mayfield, who’s been playing shortstop this season, relieved Overton, recording the final two outs of the game.

The Sooners remain a perfect 10-0 after the narrow win, and are scheduled to face San Diego State in a two-game series beginning on Thursday.
